Arsenal maintained their lead at the top of the Premier League table with an effortless and easy victory over Hull City Tigers. Prior to the game, Wenger had talked on the need to rotate his squad especially with hectic fixtures coming up and he duely did that. Sagna was out injured; Gibbs, Arteta, Wilshere and Giroud were all given the break and in came Jenkinson, Monreal, Flamini and Rosicky.

The gooners did not waste time to exert their authority in the game: a sweet gooner move released Jenkinson down the right and he gave a cross of the highest quality for prodigal son Bendtner to nod in on 2 minutes. The Arsenal players did not even wait for the fans to settle down before sending them into celebration.

Arsenal had other chances to double their lead, Mcgregor saved from Ramsey, Carzola, Bendtner, Ramsey and Ozil all came close to adding to the tally in the first half. The gooners were in total control of this half and dominated possession ( 68 % to 32%) and had 14 shots on goal to Hull’s two. However, we could not find the goal.

The second half started as the first. The fans that went to get their half time snack must have missed the goal on 47 minutes. Intricate passing between Ozil and Ramsey sliced the Hull defence and the German was left with space to shoot. The game was as good as settled already.

The Emirates beamed with smiles

The gooners still controlled possession, Carzola and Ramsey went close late on but it was not to be. Walcott and Wilshere came on for decent performances. Towards to end, the gooners defence did very well to make sure that the clean sheet was theirs and gave the opponents gave them a scare when Kris Boyd came close in the dying minutes

SZCZESNY: another clean sheet for the polished Pole, dominated his area very well again. (6)

MONREAL: deputized well for Gibbs, made good tackles and was good going forward (6.5)

MERTESACKER: another good performance from the Big Friendly German. Solid at the back (6)

KOSCIENLY: another efficient show from the French man. Dealt with the threat of Graham and Sagbo alongside Per. (6.5)

JENKINSON: great performance from Carl. Many gooners were scared that he won’t do very well but he was great. A superb ball to Bendtner for the opener (7.5)

FLAMINI: worked very hard today again. A real solid base for the gooners to go forward (6)

RAMSEY: was not at his best but still put in a good shift. Came close on several occasions. After an emotional Saturday on Saturday, the Welshman can be excused for not scoring (6.5)

ROSICKY:  helped a lot in winning the ball back and assisted the full backs on numerous occasions. (6)

CARZOLA: still not back to his best, but needs games to get there and Wenger gave him 90 minutes. Decent performance though (6)

OZIL: another decent performance from the super German and had a goal to add to his efforts (7)

BENDTNER: the prodigal son got a goal very early on and had a good chance later on. Considering that he has been on the bench so far, it was a good show from the Dane.

MAN OF THE MATCH: in a game where there were not many flash points. One player caught my fancy: CARL JENKINSON. He coped well with the threat Hull brought especially from Robbie Brady and gave a delicious cross to Bendtner to score. Great show from the England U-21 international

In the end, it was a good three points for Arsenal, a clean sheet, the prodigal son scored. Though the gooners did not up the tempo all through the game and seemed to be playing on gear one all through, it was an efficient performance.

A lot of people still doubt if Arsenal can compete in the league but you win the league by getting points and the more the gooners get points, the more people would believe that Arsene and his young stalwarts mean business. #COYG
