It is no hidden secret that Wenger has a special love for 20 year German wonder kid, Julian Draxler and Arsenal are favourites to get the 20 year old from Schalke. In the last 48 hours, there has been serious talk that Wenger could bring forward his arrival to the club as early as this winter transfer window and to make it more interesting, he is to be brought in not as an attacking midfielder that we are used to seeing him but as an out and out striker!

One of the big attributes of Wenger is his expertise in bringing out the best in his players and making them realize things that they could not have imagined. He is famously remembered for converting an almost forgotten Thierry Henry from a winger to one of the most lethal finishers the world has ever seen; or an bringing out the striking skills in a young attacking midfielder called Van Persie ( United fans should pay respect to Wenger, because if he had not done so, there won’t be a 20th league title) or changing Kolo Toure to a defender, reawakening the already dead and almost buried career of Adebayor at Monaco; even our very own Kieran Gibbs started as a left winger, but is now one of the best left backs in the league and a sure successor to Ashley Cole’s left back throne in the Three Lions team; so Arsene is used to these kind of conversions and as such it won’t be a surprise if he works his magic wand on the young German.

However, for Steve Rowley and his scouting team to recommend that Draxler could act as a striker, they must have seen some qualities in him or some particular stats that supports their theory. Gooner of Steel gives a statistical analysis of the 20 year old to see if he could qualify as a future Henry or Van Persie.

D.O.B : 20-09-1993 (20 Years)

HEIGHT: 1.87 M

FOOT: BOTH (though he is more right footed)

These attributes are worth looking out for. He is just above 6 ft. tall, so he would not be intimidated because of his height, he also uses both feet, which would be a massive advantage. He is also used to running with the ball from the left, so that means , he would not be a Giroud kind of striker that stays in the box always looking to flick on the ball to on rushing team mates.

Has played 25 games in all competitions this season, scored 5 and assisted 8; for an attacking midfielder that is very impressive.

Has made 25 shots this season, averaging 1.8 per game in the Bundesliga.

Has also given 14 key passes, made 72 successful dribbles (one of the highest in the league and is only bettered by Ribery and Gladbach pair of Kruse and Raffael)

He has a pass completion rate of 84.8 %, which for a striker is very good, compared to the 65% of Giroud.

He is also very good with his passing as he has made 30 successful long balls from 32 attempts and for a left sided midfielder that always likes to cut inside, he has 4 out of 10 successful crosses.

All these attributes clearly points to the fact that Draxler has the potential to be a very good striker but one in the class of Henry and RVP, is yet to be seen. If Wenger proposed gamble works, we could have a world class striker in our hands but if doesn’t, then we could have another Walcott or Podolski situation. I have always wanted Julian to come to the club as I see him as a long term replacement for Tomas Rosicky and with reports alleging that Wenger has already given him a tour of the club, this transfer might be a possibility.

There is no doubting the talent that Draxler has, for a 20 year old to already have 10 appearances for a  star studded squad like Germany and is already a sure bet for Brazil, this guy would only get better.

Does Gooner of Steel think this transformation would work if he does come to the Emirates? Yes.

He is still 20 and is still within the age to effect any change in his game. #Arseneknows #COYG
