Arsenal moved back to the top of the Barclay’s Premier League table with a comfortable win over stubborn London neighbors, Crystal Palace. Two second half goals from Oxlade-Chamberlain was enough to give the gooners the 2-0 win.
After a first half where Tony Pulis men gallantly fought, Arsenal upped their game in the second half and as soon as the 47 minute, the gooners had taken the lead after a clever ball from Carzola found the superb run of Oxlade-Chamberlain and the young Englishman cleverly lobbed the onrushing Speroni. Then another clever run from the Ox after a Giroud flick caught the Palace defence in the 73 minute and not even Speroni’s palm could stop the ball from going in.
SZCZESNY: another clean sheet for the big Pole. Made a great save form Jerome in the 50th minute and came out a couple of times to win the ball. 7
SAGNA: another great defensive performance from the French custodian dealt with the trickery of Bolasie and helped the calm whatever rare attack Palace brought forward. Offensively, not too superb. 7
MERTESACKER: the Big Friendly German was great today, made many tackles, interceptions and clearances, we are so lucky to have him as a player. 7.5
KOSCIELNY: decent performance from the Frenchman. Though I have seen better performances from Laurent, but he would surely draw inspiration that it was another clean sheet performance. 6.5
MONREAL: another decent performance from the Spaniard. Again, had a below par first half, did not do enough going forward, but came out with a better second half performance. 6.5
ARTETA: great performance in the base of the midfield. Did very well to mop up the mistakes of his fellow midfielders and when you have Mikel in your midfield, you would have the confidence to go forward and join the attack with ease, ask the Ox and Ramsey. 7
OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN: surely enjoying his new central midfield romance. Was the catalyst for most the team’s attack and was repaid with two goals after two world class runs into the box from his midfield position. 8 MOTM
CARZOLA: the little saint did very well today again, after a superb January; he was surely going to be the player gooners would look towards. Had an average first half, but hit the ground running in the second with a scintillating pass to the Ox to break Palace hearts. 7
OZIL: surely not as hot as he was when he first came but still puts in a good shift in every game. As usual, he was followed by the Palace players and had to drop deep a number of times. 6
PODOLSKI: a not too decent game from the German did not give Arsenal enough width down the left and most times was easily marked by Palace full back, Ward. Seems this super sub role fits him better 6
GIROUD: in all sincerity, Giroud had a poor game by his standards, he gave away possession too easily and the Palace defenders easily won the ball of him. The only silver lining is the assist he gave to the Ox for the second goal.
SUBS: ROSICKY 6, GIBBS N/A, BENDTNER N/A
I have always told people that the biggest feature about this team is the fact that there is always someone to stand up and be counted. it was Bendtner on New Year Day, Wilshere against Villa, Carzola against Fulham, Giroud against Newcastle, Walcott at Upton Park and now the OX…..hallmark of a great team. #topoftheleague #COYG
