Sometimes, we think the process if signing players is a simple one. You just knock at the door of the coach and he sells you his player after agreeing a price over a cup of coffee. Well Liverpool makes it seem that easy especially when buying from Southampton.
However, the complications run deep and sometimes, managers are left with few options and even have no options at all. Other times, the selling club just refuse to bulge, you can not put a gun to their heads ( i wish i could, though).
Gooners, every season look forward to a new player coming in. This season is not different. The gooner faithful are divided on which position is more important to strengthen. Some say the striking role, others say the midfield, some a right midfielder, some are still asking for an extra defender. Waiting for anybody to say a new right back, so that I can punch his face.
So this week, we have decided to ask, IF GIVEN THE CHANCE TO SIGN ONE PLAYER TO ADD TO THE SQUAD, WHAT POSITION WOULD IT BE?
Our panelist are ready and eager to air their views:

A striker by a million mile, that’s obviously the problematic aspect of our game last season, but i stand with the manager on only getting a WC striker on that basis. We’ll be good soon. Coyg!

I’m caught in between signing either a striker or a defensive midfielder. Last season, Arsenal forwards, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck all missed a huge chunk of action through injuries yet, Arsenal were able to score nearly over 120 goals in all competitions. This is testament to the fact that scoring goals is not much of Arsenal’s problem compared to eradicating old habit of poor defending.
Over the years, I came to realise that teams that concedes the meanest number of goals end up winning major titles.
The premature termination of Francis Coquelin loan spell at Charlton Athletic gave Arsenal a tip on what they can achieve with proper defending. But the question is: “what will be the fate of Arsenal if Coquelin gets injured, suspended or fatigue comes in?” Moreover, he alone can not bear the burden of defending. Morgan Schneiderlin will be ideal signing for me!

One name Morgan Schneiderlin!!! Goals have never being Arsenal FC’s problem, conceding them has been. For at least 3 years before the emergence of Coquelin, we have severely been decimated in the centre of the pitch. Every transfer market we have eagerly anticipated Prof. Wenger getting a Defensive midfielder. There were rumours of Khedira, Carvalho, even Mikel at some point and now Vidal but none of these players suit the need as completely as Morgan. Arteta was converted, Wilshere has been played there, Diarra was bought & failed, a certain Diaby was signed and instead injured every human part imaginable, Flamini’s first spell was the last time we had a true bulldog in the middle of the park till January when Francis Coquelin came into his own. The young man’s performance has shown us what we have missed for a long time- protection for our defence.
Abrasive, controlling, excellent passer of the ball, leader on the pitch and of course, he has EPL experience.
Second best tackler and interceptor in the entire division to none other than Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, the Frenchman has gone from being a good midfielder in 2013/14 to being an excellent player in 2014/15. I personally think he’s the only player Southampton could have sold during the exodus that would have been impossible to replace. Forming a formidable partnership with Victor Wanyama, this pair chased a player of Jack Cork’s calibre to Swansea and we lost that League Cup tie to the singular effort of these two men.
Schneiderlin signing an Arsenal contract will definitely send a lot of us fans into a frenzy of anticipation.

If I’m to sign one player, I’d buy a DM.
Arsenal has a vast array of attacking talent with the likes of Alexis, Giroud, Walcott, Welbeck, Ramsey, Cazorla and Ozil capable of finding the back of the net.
However, Francis Coquelin’s emergence last season showed the crucial importance of having a dedicated defensive midfielder protecting the back line while the attacking contingent do their thing. In just five months, protecting the rearguard, the improvement was vast for everyone to see.
Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are currently Francis Coquelin’s backup but in my honest opinion, they are not good enough. I hope one (or both of them) get sold this summer so that we can buy a new DM. Kondogbia was linked but he has joined Inter. Schneiderlin was also linked but he is keen on playing for Manchester United. The William Carvalho rumors are taking center stage and I hope we get him

I would sign a striker because I feel that has been a major positional problem for Arsenal for several years now. Giroud can still contribute in some matches, but a world class striker would certainly allow us to move closer to achieving our aims.
It may prove very difficult to sign a top quality striker in this transfer window, but if the opportunity arises to sign a world class centre-forward, then we shouldn’t hesitate.
Well, the panelist have decided, three votes for a defensive midfielder, and two votes for a striker. This shows that we might actually need both.
However, in all seriousness, I think a priority should be a Defensive midfielder. It is no coincidence that the emergence of Le Coq and the great second half form were the same period. Arsenal is an attacking team that loves going forward. I don’t want to be seeing players like Ozil tracking back, their effect should be further forward; our fullbacks need to adequately covered when they bomb forward. As at now, it’s just Coquelin that is dependable. We need another player in that mould, that can compete with him and give us a credible back up.
A striker is good but should come after this and besides, strikers are not cheap, except you are going for the Bobby Zamora kind. So, I doubt of the club would want to cough out more money after a DM and Cech.
