As we countdown to the end of the tormenting and annoying season break, various issues have started to come up and while some have been thrashed, others are yet to be addressed. One of such issues is who would start the season as first choice striker.

Last season, Giroud and Sanogo were justling for that position, then the Frenchman broke his ankle at Goodison Park, Welbeck was brought in and occupied that role. When Giroud came back, he took the mantle back from the hard working Englishman. However, when Walcott came back, he seems to have edged Giroud. With the hattrick against West Brom and the impressive Cup final performance, the Englishman seems to have occupied the front role of the queue.

This week, our panelist would thrash out who should start as first choice striker  when we kick off against West Brom.

Though, Theo Walcott has always expressed his desire to lead Arsenal’s attack and he might get his wish granted in no distant time but I feel it will benefit Arsenal more if he continues playing from the flank. This will make Arsenal less predictable and create another dimension to Arsenal’s game. Using Cristiano Ronaldo as an example of how successful a winger can be. I think Walcott can follow suit.

Danny Welbeck to me has not done enough to justify been a first choice striker as he still has a long way to achieving that feat.

Olivier Giroud will be my first choice striker for next season as he keeps improving each season. With a conversion rate of 13% in 2012/13 season. 17% in 2013/14 season and a whopping 28% in 2014/15 season. Giroud’s all round game is not left out in this improvement.

Walcott by a million mile, potency, accuracy and movement  stand him out among the rest but we might still get a big forward tho,the market is fresh n we’re going for one,so,i feel this topic should be revisited, coyg!!

Over the last few seasons, there’s been tension over the issue of playing Theo Walcott in the Central striker role permanently. It was such a contentious that it is rumoured to be included as part of his contract negotiations. Walcott has been an Arsenal player before Giroud (2012) and Welbeck (2014).

The choice of signing Danny Welbeck of all people will always remain a mystery to me though but then, Wenger knows best. In the last 2 seasons, Olivier Giroud has proven he has what it takes to perform at  a high level though he might not be as consistent as we expect in order to convert chances our notoriously creative midfield have been known to conjure but then, who can?

His performance in the last 2 seasons show that the Frenchman deserves to be the starting striker role above both Englishmen until a better more productive striker is signed. Giroud -0.43, Walcott- 0.25, Welbeck- 0.23 goals per game stats speaks volumes.

My first Choice? Giroud

I would go with Walcott initially because of his pace and the way he ended last season, but Giroud and Welbeck represent very good back-up options.
Walcott has shown some improvement in his finishing and seems much more mature now.

For the first time, the Arsenal Roundtable that normally is united in topics are now at a tie. Walcott and Giroud would have to struggle for that role.
However, with Steve Omoh Braimoh suggesting that a new striker might be on his way, neither of the three strikers should sit on the easy.

Thank you for following the Arsenal Roundtable, your comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.
