Unai Emery is plotting a surprising move for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata.
Unai Emery has made a fine start to his managerial career in England, with his side winning 12 consecutive matches in all competitions. The north London club have climbed to fourth in the Premier League table and are currently top of their Europa League group.
But Spanish boss is already weighing up where he needs to strengthen his squad at Emirates and will keep tabs on Juan Mata’s situation at Old Trafford.
The Daily Star says Unai Emery is a huge admirer of the playmaker, who he managed for several years at Valencia. The 30-year-old will be out of contract at the summer end of the summer and Manchester United have so far been unable to convince him to sign a contract extension.
It is believed Unai Emery will see how the season pans out before deciding whether to move for Juan Mata, with his experience potentially invaluable.
Any move for Juan Mata may also be tied to Aaron Ramsey’s future, who is set to become a free agent after talks over a new deal collapsed. It is suggested that Juan Mata is happy at Old Trafford and willing to stay, but will need convincing that he will remain a key player for Jose Mourinho.
