Rob Holding’s imperious Arsenal displays have earned an England call-up
Arsenal nearly sold the player to Burnley but are now reaping the benefits of keeping him on board.
England take on the USA in a friendly later this month, followed by a UEFA Nations League clash with Croatia.
After the 3-2 win over Spain in their last outing, it will no doubt be exciting to see Gareth Southgate’s men in action again.
Plenty of players will be hoping to make the squad, with Southgate clearly willing to try new and untested players.
One man who should be present is Arsenal defender Rob Holding.
If he does make the squad, it would present quite the turnaround for the former Bolton Wanderers man.
Holding was nearly sold by Arsenal in January.
The Sun claimed Burnley were ready to bring him on loan in January, with a view to a £15 million summer deal.
That never materialised and the centre-back has gone on to impress new manager Unai Emery.
He has played in Arsenal’s last six Premier League games.
In his last appearance, against Liverpool at the weekend, he put in a sensational performance to keep the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah at bay.
In fact, Holding has played 10 times this season. Arsenal have won eight of those games, drawing two.
Holding, who has previously been a part of Southgate’s under-21 set-up, will certainly feel he deserves a call-up ahead of the out of form James Tarkowski or Brighton’s Lewis Dunk
