Henrikh Mkhitaryan has paid tribute to the Arsenal supporters for the atmosphere generated inside the Emirates Stadium against Liverpool last weekend.
Not for the first time this season, the Gunners had to come from behind as Alexandre Lacazette’s goal in the 81st minute cancelled out James Milner’s earlier strike as the two teams had to settle for a share of the points in north London.
In years gone by there had been a divide amongst Arsenal fans – mainly over the differing views surrounding former manager Arsene Wenger – which trickled into the stadium and at times the negative atmosphere had an affect on the players.
That wasn’t the case last Saturday as the crowd inspired the team to a draw and Mkhitaryan has thanked the fans and is hoping for more of the same starting with this afternoon’s clash against Wolves.
“From the first minute, everyone felt the atmosphere in the stadium,” said
Mkhitaryan , as reported by the Telegraph . “They [the supporters] played a big role when we scored the equaliser against Liverpool because they were pushing us to go forward, forward, and in the end we have scored.
“Thanks to them. I hope to feel this atmosphere in every game.”
That draw extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run across all competitions to 14 games – it now stands at 15 after being held at home by Sporting CP in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Many pundits and supporters alike have noticed a difference about the Gunners under new head coach Unai Emery and
Mkhitaryan has explained what minor things have changed since the Spaniard replaced Wenger in the summer.
