France legend and head coach Didier Deschamps claims he will only be using Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette through the middle, with the striker receiving his first call up since appearing in November 2017.
Lacazette was dropped for the French 23-man team that won the World Cup in Russia this summer.
Speaking about the striker Deschamps said via Metro: “He was called up regularly for us, even though he was not part of the 23-man group for the World Cup.
“But he has been rather good for his club, and his scoring statistics are of a very good level.
‘With the French team he has already done some interesting things, and some other less interesting things.”
Speaking on if Lacazette is a replacement for Anthony Martial he continued: “Lacazette is an axial [central] striker.
“It’s true that he has already been able to evolve elsewhere for his club, but it is in the axis [leading the line] that he is at his most powerful.”
Thanks to injury to United Anthony Martial, Lacazette was able to receive a call up to the French team, and Dechamps will not be using him on the wing in spite of Emery’s switching him on the sides.
So far three people has withdrawn from the French team having had Paul Pogba, Martial and Moussa Sissoko on the sidelines with injury.
