Arsenal are on the brink of signing Argentina and Sevilla midfield maestro Ever Banega, this is according to reports.
Benega has been on the watchlist of Unai Emery since the summer transfer window, and the Spanish manager has retained interest in him hitherto.
The Gunners went 22 games unbeaten but the recent injuries to some of their key players have left them threadbare from the defence to attack. Part of the Gunners problem is lack of creativity but Emery, having worked with Banega, thinks the Argentinean will bridge that gap in his squad.
Arsenal are also uncertain of the future of Aaron Ramsey but they wont allow him leave without signing a player in his stead.
“Ever Banega, close to leaving Sevilla to move to Arsenal at the express request of Unai Emery, the coach who always drew the best from him as a player,” Martinez wrote on Twitter.
“The Winter Market in Europe foresees impressive movements.”
Arsenal have managed to win one of their last three matches. Any further slip will make their top four chances non existence.
Arsenal are expected to bolster their defence, which has presented their major weakness this season and they have been linked with plethora of defenders. If the Arsenal board fail to support Emery in January, then my thought is that he is being set up for failure.
